Dear readers,

This special edition of Research News provides information about the latest Fraunhofer solutions for tomorrow’s resilient and sustainable value creation. Machine learning and artificial intelligence, hydrogen technologies, quantum computing, Industrie 4.0 applications in 5G networks, cognitive internet technologies for digital sovereignty, digital engineering and man-machine interaction, robotics, predictive maintenance and augmented reality: At the HANNOVER MESSE Digital Edition 2021, twenty Fraunhofer Institutes, the Fraunhofer Group for Production, the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Cognitive Internet Technologies CCIT and the Competence Network Quantum Computing will be presenting their solutions for the production of tomorrow. #WeKnowSolutions

Germany and Europe are on the way to a self-defined future. To create a sustainable road traffic system, hundreds of thousands of fuel cells will be needed for hydrogen-powered cars. How can we successfully produce fuel cell components in cycles that last just seconds? How can we enable SMEs that do not have any expert knowledge of AI to adapt AI algorithms themselves and use them in their quality assurance procedures? Which opportunities do companies have to prepare for the use of 5G on an industrial scale and to consider their requirements and specific business processes from the outset? Fraunhofer will be answering these and other questions at this year’s HANNOVER MESSE.

One of the many highlights will be the presentation of the Fraunhofer Competence Network Quantum Computing. This open research platform is based on an IBM Q System One quantum computer, one of the most powerful systems available at the moment. The platform already enables industrial companies and research institutions to develop quantum-based computing strategies for business-related questions, and falls entirely under German data protection regulations. In order to increase quantum-computing expertise in Germany, the network also offers a multilevel training and education program. This includes various courses as well as expert advice on the use of quantum computers and the assessment of future investments.
